“your first step to being an entrepreneur: learn how to sell to only those who want to be sold to”
Now you’ve started a business, gone through the whole process of getting your website up and online, you have products to sell and ways to monetize your site once it gets its traffic. But there is just one small issue, you’ve gone live and there is no traffic. None. Not as far as the virtual eye can see. Trust me, I know how bitterly disappointing this is but do not fret! I am here to tell you all is not lost.
Content Marketing (Just do this, its free)
Yes it does require some effort on your part, some effort you may have even sworn you would not be bothered with, but content marketing is free and powerful, and in my opinion, the reason search engines are even around. Now we at Ciya Business Solutions do not claim to be content marketing experts and as such we are just going to briefly discuss what it is and its potential for driving organic traffic to your site. Essentially content marketing is the creation and provision (via your website) of information in different forms that users of the internet may be interested in. An example of this includes blog articles, news reports, videos, pictures and the list is endless. When a user types in a search query with Google, the search engine tries to find as many webpages that provide information on the topic and ranks them in what it thinks is the most authoritative and useful order. By creating different forms of information and placing them on your website, Google then connects the information you provide with the person who is looking for it (in truth it’s a little more complex, but this is the gist of the process). The more useful information you provide in whatever form, the better you will do when competing for traffic online! We recommend researching different content marketing strategies in order to do this successfully and are looking to write on it in the near future.
Search Engine Optimization (this I will concede is a little harder, but definitely not impossible!)
Search engine optimization (or SEO) is the process of trying to get as a high a rank as possible on a search engine when it displays search results for a certain query. I have come across many mixed opinions about the importance hereof and in my expert (not so expert) opinion, SEO has many merits and is a must do at some stage for all websites looking to grow maximally. However, if you are just starting out, do some research on the basics thereof and the importance of keywords in your content and webpages, but focus first on making a great website that provides as much usual information as possible. Once you start to see growth in your traffic and validation that your posts are useful, then SEO and some of its tricks will have you quadrupling your traffic in no time! Mega Success here you come…
Conversion rate optimization
This is the process of increasing the number of sales you make via your website, vs the amount of traffic you receive. There is a whole science behind this including optimizing your landing page and its layout and the way you structure your call to action campaigns. Again this not our area of expertise and further research here will take you a long way, but we do hope to point out the importance of a great conversion rate. This will help you make the most of all that traffic you are currently working so hard for!
Pay Per Click Advertising
This can be done on many (if not all) social media and search engine platforms. Now if you’re a bootstrapping startup with a marketing budget smaller than the attention span of a drug addict in a pharmacy, then welcome to the club. Oh and also this may not be for you just yet. But for those of you starting with megabucks then you’ll like what I have to say next! You can buy traffic! Well sort of. You can pay these search engines and social media platforms to boost your post to the relevant people by bidding on and paying for exposure for different keywords, interest, demographics, regions all over the world and even ages! Some large companies have even boasted as much as a 2 for 1 return on investment with their paid marketing campaigns!
Social media (we’ll end on another must have, free to do exposure method)
Lastly, but definitely not least, social media is just another platform on which you can gain the interest and following of people interested in what you have to say and possibly what you have to offer. I do not recommend signing up for every available platform, but do put in effort to at least one or two. It doesn’t cost anything except time and effort and with this you can begin to generate tons of traffic for your site! Some big names have even created their whole brand by solely focusing all their time and effort on their social media interactions and influence!
