How to Make / Get A free website

“The owner of the company where I work pulled up in his brand new BMW this morning.”

“Me: “wow, that’s a really nice car boss!”

“Him: “let me tell you something, if you set goals, work hard and act determined, I can get even better one next year!”

So let me start off telling you that I am just trying (like everyone else on the internet) to grab your attention with that headline. But I am also going to let you into a little known secret. Yes, if you know you how to write HTML and have a degree in IT, then you may be able to produce your own website for free. However, as for the rest of us, we have to try and sift through the exhaustive amount of information on the internet in order to find out if there is indeed perhaps a free or low cost way to get a website – but today I’m going to give you the answers straight. So listen closely…

Domain Registration

Shop around! I cannot stress this enough. There are many (many many many) websites out there that offer domain registration. But beware, even if you are lucky enough to find the exact domain you want (even with suffixes like .biz and .co etc), some of the websites charge an arm and a leg for domains so just compare prices as much as possible!

Next, sort out that Hosting

Once again there are many businesses that offer website hosting and of course prices seem to range from free to about the price of both of your kidneys sold on the black market (and that’s just the monthly price)! However, and this is one of the first secrets, if you search hard enough, there businesses out there that offer free hosting! Imagine that! The possibilities are endless as you can try different websites and ideas many times over for the price of the domain registration only. Obviously the downside to this is that, should you suddenly experience huge growth in traffic, you may find that the site cannot handle it and you risk upsetting some customers (but avoid this by just being prepared for growth)

Now about that website (finally)

You thought that we would never get here! If you have managed to source low cost or free domain registration (not sure about it’s existence), found a company that offers free website hosting (we guarantee their existence as we used to use it!) then you are ready to for the best news you may have come across so far. There is a magical content management system (CMS) called WordPress and it can be found at wordpress.org. This so called “WordPress” is an excellent, open source (free), CMS that can be uploaded to your hosting platform and through various themes and a multitude of plugins, you can create almost any website you can imagine. All for free. Google some examples of WordPress websites if you’re not yet convinced.

As we spoke about in the article “Why a website is important for your business”, there are also many other drag and drop website builders that don’t charge for you to create a live website. However, be warned that they do tend to charge a little more for domain registration and for hosting, but if you are happy with the domain that they give you then this is definitely easier than the WordPress option discussed above.

So there you have it. It isn’t a myth. There is a possibility to have a free website and best of all, you don’t even need to know how to code.

As always, let us know what you think of the information above and what else we can write about. All the information and advice is gathered from extensive research and experience, and of course it is written with the aim to help other start out entrepreneurs succeed and unfortunately not necessarily guarantee returns or success as much as we wish we could. If you are currently working on a start-up, write to us via our contact page and we will be sure to publish all the info you would like to include about via our platform for nothing else other than the chance to help you reach more people!

Keep Hustling.
